Writing Center

We had this top made for our Lego table and we have created a writing center. The children are
THRILLED, THRILLED, and THRILLED with it. Cheap and cheerful.

Don't you Love

I have a ton of favorite Fall movies.
I love to watch "You've Got Mail" and "When Harry Met Sally" in Autumn.
They mean Fall to me.
Have you ever seen the movie "The Mirror Has Two Faces"?
Only Barbra Streistand can make New York City look that good.
It simply glimmers.
NYC, also, doesn't look so bad in "Sex in the City".

Tricking the Treat

There is way to much Christmas stuff in the stores. It has become my personal mission NOT to hear a Christmas song until Novemberish. Seriously, enjoy Halloween. It is the American pumpkin holiday, after all.

Play Dough

I forgot to tell you that I have been making so much play dough for my Play Doughology class and for use in the Rainbow room that I am completely out of salt. Seriously. I emptied shakers and spice containers trying to get enough. I nearly used margarita salt!

First Communion

Blonde Girl is taking her first communion today. My hope is that she doesn't choke on the wafter/body of Christ or slug down the wine/blood of Christ. This stuff makes me nervous.

A Gift from Sam

This little boy walks with us to school every day. He is a former Rainbow and prefers to walk Sam, as he is a boy. Look at the cute coat he brought Sam back from Iowa! Ironically, his mom is from the Carlise, IA area. You can barely see Sam with all that camouflage!

The Latest Fashion in Pajamas

Grandma made Blonde Girl these cute pajamas while she was in town. She used her former sewing machine that has been barely used my moi. It still ran and did not need to be oiled.
Blonde Girl loves them and has been sleeping in them nightly.

Discovering Pie

Here is the pie from the other day. It was yummy.
In fact, I will be making it again soon.

Not Much

We are just busy living our life and doing our thing.
We have recovered from the "Grandma Tour".
The girls are busy with homework and the weather is turning cooler.

Back into the Groove

I dropped my mom off at the airport yesterday and headed to soccer practice. I was sooooo tired last night. I had to go to bed early. She made it home around 1:30 in the morning.
She is tired today. I am, too. I am not sure if it is due to the visit or a busy day at preschool.

I am teaching an enrichment class called Play Doughology. I made it up. Guess what, I am
full. They had to close the class!!!! I keep telling you I am popular with the small and young at heart.

TTYL.

Day 7

Most people come to the Valley of the Sun and take some shots of tequila. Not my mother.
She took shots for the flu and pneumonia. And, was quite thrilled to get them.
She is heading back to the cold today.

Day 6

We had two games yesterday, volley-ball and soccer. The soccer game was one hour delayed and we sat in the 102 degree heat for about 2 1/2 hours. Yikes. We were all a tad tired when we arrived home.

Day 5

Mother asked me to pull-up the blog so she could read it. My thought was that if you live it, you don't have to read it. But, I nevertheless clicked to the blog. Lol.

Day 4

We finally made lime pie.

Mexican or Key or Cocktail Lime Pie (adapted from the Reluctant Gourmet)

1/2 cup fresh lime juice (12 to 15 key limes or 3 to 4 common limes)
4 teaspoons grated lime zest
4 egg yolks
1 - 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
11 graham crackers
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

1. Whisk the egg yolks and lime zest together in a bowl until tinted light green. This takes about 2 minutes
2. Beat in milk, then juice and set aside at room temperature till it thickens.
3. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
4. Mix graham cracker crumbs and sugar in another bowl.
5. Add butter and stir with a fork until well blended.
6. Pour this mixture into a 9-inch pie pan and press over the bottom and up the sides of the pan.
7. Bake on the center rack for about 15 minutes until the crust is lightly brown, remove and let cool to room temperature.
8. Pour the lime filling into crust, spread evenly, and then bake for 15 minutes until the center sets, but still wiggles when shaken.
9. Remove from oven and cool to room temperature.
10. Refrigerate for at least three hours until well chilled.

Day 3

My mother can not get enough of the nice weather and spent most of the time sitting outside.
In fact, I schelped out my ironing and did it on the patio. Kind of nice, really.

Day 2

I think Grandma thinks our household is a tad crazy. She forgets that she had three children four years apart and all of us went in different directions. Blonde Girl is tired today and lying around. Miss Brunette is babysitting for a Rainbow of mine. I should get a finder's fee.
We are hanging out and probably making a lime pie. I'll post the recipe that we choose.

Day 1

We took Blonde Girl to the CVS Minute Clinic. It took more than a couple of minutes. She is sick, but doesn't have anything like bronchitis or pneumonia. Grandma was able to get her flu shot, apparently they are sold out or unavailable in Iowa.

Quilt Store Alert

Grandma has arrived safely.

Weekend Update

The end of a busy, busy week. Tons of homework, tests and projects. The start of Volleyball practice and a Show Choir performance.

I finished my class. I found out my instructor was from Iowa. I asked him where in Iowa. Altoona. Love Man went to high school in Altoona. My instructor did not seem that excited about it as I was. He graduated from high school in 1993. I told him I thought I might be the age of his parents and he said, "yeah, I think you are". Skippy had better give me an A.

His mom and dad attended my former college, as did his brother. Again, he was not impressed.

Sadie was taken to the soccer scrimmage and was the hit of the event. She just sat there and was perfectly well behaved. The other two are recovering from their shot experience
and were indisposed.

We are preparing for the visit of Grandma. She has not been here in 12 1/2 years and has never been to the house we currently live in. The girls are excited.

Shot Clinic

I am off to the shot clinic at the Humane Society. My vet charges $82.50 for the shot. I love my vet, but really. The Humane Society charges $18. So, Sam and Abby are getting crated up and taken in. I am going EARLY, as not to distress them any more than necessary. It is a huge savings.

Fall Break

For me, Fall Break, has begun!!!

Preschool

All is well. I just got an mail from a mother asking about the new boy in our class.

There is no new boy.

Seriously, you can only believe about half of would these preschoolers say about what happens at school.

What happens in preschool stays in preschool. Hopefully, the parents only believe half of what they hear about us.

You Have to Love . . . .

Brett Favre. I mean really. He leaves his Packers and goes to the Jets, where things were okay.
And, now he the the head Viking. I told Love Man his recent job dalliance was similar to Brett Favre's team changes. And, I don't even like sports. But, football can, sometimes, be very emotional.

Weekend Update

I was in class all day on Saturday. The girls and I went to church on Sunday. Then, unfortunately, we all had homework.

The Time is Now

OMG - I have not decorated for Halloween yet.
I am days behind for one of my favorite holidays.

Limes for Free

We are nearly over-run with key limes,
which are falling off the tree and leaving dozens left.

The Talk

I ate at the new Paradise Bakery in my neighborhood.
It is the talk. . . .
Not since the opening of the Super Target or the Dollar Tree has there been more buzz.

Fall, Fall, Fall

It may be the last gasp of summer, but it is STILL hot here. It was great last week, but hot this week. The mornings and evenings are glorious. I am HOT to put up my Halloween decorations.
